Future of HJP Commission - Wednesday, August 22, 2018
First announced on the last day of this year's summer camp. We had a big family/community day event with the Jackson Township Fire Company, Jackson Twp. Road Crew & their equipment along with St. Luke's Ambulances. We had a cook-out for everyone. Thank you for helping
On with the announcement … As of December 31, 2018 HJP Park and Open Space Commission will no longer exist. At the end 2015 Pocono Twp. withdrew their support yet we allow the residents to still attend any of our public programs. In December of 2017 Hamilton Twp. issued their letter to withdraw at the end of this year. The HJP Board vote to except.
This means there will be not public programs of trips, hikes, day camp along with all the other things we have provided to enrich the quality of life in this region and beyond. There has been no formal plan of action as to what will become of anything as of this separation.
You will need to attend the two remaining townships (Hamilton & Jackson) formal meetings (prior to the end of the year) to inquire as to the future. It has always been the goal of the Director, Rec Manager and instructors/Counselors to provide activities and enhance the quality of life at reasonable cost if any to all of the public. We have done that. Unfortunately the members of the HJP Board do not attend or use these programs and don't see the benefits of a park dept.
We wish all our users the best in the future.

Grand Opening of Dog Park - Tuesday, August 16, 2016
On June 11th we held our Grand Opening. Both the large and small dog areas were open to current key holders. We offered sign-up to anyone that wished to have a key. We had Maura & family, Board Members of HJP and Friends of HJP along with other volunteers and several media personnel attend. There were over 20 dogs for the ribbon cutting. Then several more showed up. Between 9 & noon approximately 30 dogs had played hard.
There has only been a handful of days since the Grand Opening that the phone has not rung with question on how to get a key. We continue to add people/dog each week.
DOG PARK - Update - Tuesday, April 19, 2016
We ordered the fence for the large dog area on Friday April 15. We hope to have this completed within three weeks. We could use a couple of volunteers to paint our dog tunnels. We have two in the small dog area and plans to place two in the large dog area. We supply the paint and brushes, we just need the labor part. if interested in volunteering call 570-629-0966
Keys and registration forms are available in the office. 570-629-0966

Dog Park Opens - Saturday, January 30, 2016
The first area of our Dog Park is open. This will be for all dog at this time. As spring nears we hope to add more fence to create our large dog area. Then the current area will be for small dog (34 lbs. & under) only. We are using green ideas throughout the dog park. There are benches for you to sit on made out of trees and excess lumber. There are poop bag stations made out of plastic tubs and hold grocery bags. There are two tunnels created out of concrete culverts. Some of the ground cover is mulch from the brush that was removed. This dog park is being built from contributions by the public though donations and fund raisers. TAXES have not been raised to do any work on this project. Some of the work has been from a dedicated group of volunteers.
Contact the office to find out how you can get a key to use the dog park. 570-629-0966

Dog Park Development Update - Monday, December 22, 2014
As of today we have finished the rough in grading of the dog park. Next spring we will rake it and seed it. Then by mid summer we could be installing the fence. The grasses will need to be cut a MINIMUM of 4-6 times to train the grasses before dogs can play. We should be able to open by August/September 2015 as planned.
Open Field Development Update - Monday, December 22, 2014
As most of you know we have an area that has been referred to as the "Soccer Field". Well this field will be able to host football, soccer or maybe the family baseball game while on the picnic. We still need more dirt next spring to finish this off. We have received a lot of dirt from several sites Like Kalahari, Papillion & Moyer, and NE site Contractors. Jackson Township had 2 projects this past summer that send fill to our location also.
Construction updates - Tuesday, October 21, 2014
If you haven't been out to the Regional Park lately, here is our update.

Dog Park - We have push fill dirt in to level off the trip hazards. We also pushed dirt with grass on top of the fill. So now the fall growing season and spring growing season should begin to yield the areas so that we can put-up the fence. We are hoping to be open by summer 2015. We still need lots of fence sponsorship.
Open Field - The area north of the parking lot is an open field. It will be used for kites, football, soccer, or family baseball games. It to has gotten a partial covering of fill dirt to begin the leveling process. This area will take many more cubic yards of dirt. We place about 1,200 cubic yards over the last several weeks.
Parking Lot - The parking lot has been ruffed in for now. It will remain a gravel lot until we are done with heavy equipment loading/unloading. We don't want to destroy the pavement that will be in place.
Pavilion - The area for our first pavilion is ready for the donor to begin construction. It will lye to the east of the parking lot back in the wood line. This could also be opened in the early summer of 2015. There is a roughed in trail that will lead to the open field too.
Trails - We applied for a grant to pave our trail so that everyone can use it. It is about 1/2 mile in length. It starts at the main parking area and weaves thru our rain garden system. Don't forget we have over 3 miles of hiking trail on the property now. So go take a hike!!
New idea - We were approached by Jackson Twp Fire Company looking for a place the helicopters could land for emergencies. We then asked Pocono Twp Fire Comp. and Central Pocono Ambulance for their opinions. They too are in favor of this at the park. It should serve quite well considering all the major highways near by that have bad accidents. We checked with the local Medical Flight people and they too like this the location. The goal is to have the area filled with dirt to level it off yet this fall. Then have all next year to let the grass grow and maybe be ready by Fall 2015.

As you can see we are really close on having several features opening next year. Join us and help finish off these projects. The sooner they are complete the better for all of us.
